Netflix Unveils MONSTER: The Ed Gein Story Trailer

Netflix has released the first trailer for MONSTER: The Ed Gein Story, the third season of Ryan Murphy’s hit anthology series. The chilling new installment arrives October 3, 2025, diving into the real-life crimes that shaped horror history.

The Monster anthology, created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, has already dominated streaming charts with its previous seasons on Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez brothers. Now, the spotlight shifts to Ed Gein, whose shocking acts in 1950s Wisconsin became the blueprint for some of cinema’s most terrifying villains.

Charlie Hunnam leads the cast as Ed Gein, joined by Laurie Metcalf as his domineering mother, Augusta. Lesley Manville portrays Bernice Worden, the hardware store owner whose disappearance triggered Gein’s arrest in 1957. The series also features Tom Hollander as Alfred Hitchcock, acknowledging how Gein’s case inspired Psycho’s Norman Bates.

The trailer hints at a grim exploration of Gein’s world, marked by an oppressive family life and crimes that unsettled small-town America. While dramatized for television, the series draws directly from historical records and trial accounts to build its unsettling narrative.

Ed Gein, dubbed the “Butcher of Plainfield,” was convicted of murdering Bernice Worden and confessed to killing tavern owner Mary Hogan. Beyond these crimes, investigators uncovered evidence of grave robbing and macabre body mutilations that fueled decades of fascination in popular culture.

The show positions itself at the intersection of true crime and horror, much like the infamous case itself. By weaving in Hitchcock’s portrayal, the series acknowledges how Gein’s actions rippled far beyond Wisconsin, shaping characters in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Silence of the Lambs.

Netflix is banking on the success of its previous seasons, which quickly climbed to the platform’s most-watched English-language debuts. With true crime continuing to capture global audiences, MONSTER: The Ed Gein Story is poised to be another cultural flashpoint in streaming.

For viewers, the series may raise the same questions that have long surrounded the genre: are we seeking understanding of criminal psychology, or indulging in the spectacle of horror? Murphy and Brennan’s track record suggests they’ll aim to balance both perspectives.

MONSTER: The Ed Gein Story premieres October 3, 2025, exclusively on Netflix, promising a chilling retelling of the crimes that blurred the line between reality and fiction in modern horror.
