Epic Ride Docuseries Brings Universal Theme Parks to Peacock

Peacock is set to premiere a new three-part docuseries, Epic Ride: The Story of Universal Theme Parks, giving fans an unprecedented look at the history and future of Universal’s legendary destinations. The series arrives September 29, just months before the grand opening of Universal Epic Universe in Orlando.

Universal Television Alternative Studio produced the project, which traces Universal’s journey from its studio lot beginnings to its rise as a global theme park powerhouse. Viewers will see how the “ride the movies” philosophy evolved into immersive worlds that combine film, music, and cutting-edge design.

The series highlights the creation of Universal Epic Universe, the highly anticipated fourth park at Universal Orlando Resort. Scheduled to open on May 22, 2025, this massive 750-acre development is set to double the resort’s footprint and introduce 16 new attractions across five themed lands.

Prominent voices in film and entertainment help guide the story, including Steven Spielberg, Donna Langley, Kathleen Kennedy, and Frank Marshall. Actors Bryce Dallas Howard, Michelle Yeoh, and Vin Diesel also share how Universal’s worlds have shaped their careers and the guest experience.

Behind the camera, showrunner John Marks and executive producer Jon Strong weave interviews with rare archival footage, offering both nostalgia and forward-looking insight. Karen Irwin, President of Universal Orlando, and creative director Steve Tatham also appear to discuss the challenges of building physical worlds inspired by beloved films.

Epic Universe itself promises bold innovations. Guests can explore Super Nintendo World, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, Dark Universe, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Celestial Park, home to the Stardust Racers roller coaster reaching speeds of 62 mph along a 5,000-foot track.

Celestial Park also showcases Universal’s largest technological feat yet: more than seven million individually controlled LEDs built into the environment. Combined with music by composer Danny Elfman, this central hub is designed as a living, breathing spectacle.

Peacock positions Epic Ride: The Story of Universal Theme Parks not just as a promotional piece, but as a behind-the-scenes documentary on the art of building worlds. As audiences anticipate the May 2025 debut of Epic Universe, the series provides a rare chance to see how dreams on paper transform into concrete, steel, and magic.
