What’s Leaving Netflix in August 2025

Dozens of popular movies and series, including AMC dramas and HBO’s “Ballers”, will exit Netflix U.S. in August as licensing deals expire.

Netflix is set for a major content shake-up in August 2025, with a wave of titles departing due to expiring distribution agreements. The losses span across genres and studios, from Alfred Hitchcock thrillers and animated favorites to high-profile series from HBO, AMC, and Disney. The most significant shift is the end of a one-year licensing pact that brought a trove of AMC dramas to the platform.

One of the biggest names on the way out is Ballers, the HBO dramedy starring Dwayne Johnson, which leaves August 15. After a five-season run on Netflix, its removal underscores the limited-time nature of cross-platform deals. Similarly, Disney’s My Wife and Kids will exit on August 5, aligning with the gradual withdrawal of Disney-owned content from competing streamers.

A major exodus comes August 19, when the AMC-Netflix agreement officially concludes. Over a dozen series will disappear, including Fear the Walking Dead, Preacher, Gangs of London, and Interview with the Vampire. The short-lived deal, just one year in length, highlights how fleeting access to prestige programming can be in today’s streaming landscape.

Classic film fans will also see major losses. August 1 brings the departure of iconic Hitchcock titles Psycho and The Birds, along with family and comedy hits like Matilda, Happy Gilmore, and The Lego Movie. Recent theatrical releases, including Kung Fu Panda 4 and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, will also exit by month’s end.

While Netflix continues to invest in originals, the August content purge reflects a broader industry trend: studios reclaiming their IP for proprietary platforms. With content turnover accelerating, subscribers face increasing pressure to watch before windows close, or risk missing out altogether.
