Wednesday Season 2 Holds Strong as KPop Demon Hunters Closes in on Netflix Records

Netflix’s early August 2025 Top 10 brings a mix of chart-topping series and record-chasing films, with “Wednesday” holding its crown and “KPop Demon Hunters” making history.

Netflix’s first full week of August 2025 has delivered a competitive Top 10, led by the much-anticipated debut of Wednesday Season 2. Released on August 4 with four episodes, the Addams Family spinoff secured 50 million views in just five days, nearly matching the phenomenal launch of Season 1, which had all eight episodes available at once. The second half of the season is due September 3, expected to push totals even higher.

This debut is particularly notable as it comes with half the episode count, proving the franchise’s staying power. Lady Gaga’s addition to the cast has further fueled buzz, keeping Wednesday firmly positioned as Netflix’s most popular English-language series and second overall behind Squid Game. Netflix reports the 341.1 million viewing hours logged so far equate to about 50.1 million complete views.

Meanwhile, KPop Demon Hunters continues to dominate Netflix’s movie charts nearly two months after release. The animated musical, which dropped on June 20, has already amassed 184.6 million views to date, ranking it as the fourth most popular English-language movie ever on Netflix. In early August alone, it added 25.9 million views, securing the No. 2 movie spot for the week.

The film’s rapid climb raises speculation about whether it could eventually overtake Red Notice, Netflix’s all-time most-watched film, with 230.9 million views. While there’s still a significant gap, KPop Demon Hunters has maintained strong week-to-week retention, something most Netflix films struggle to achieve after their premiere window.

Adding to its cultural footprint, the movie’s soundtrack single “Golden”, performed by the fictional K-pop group from the film, hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has surpassed 3 billion global streams. Netflix is leaning into the music-driven momentum, hosting a sing-along theatrical event on August 23–24 to engage fans offline.

Other titles making waves in the Top 10 include Happy Gilmore 2 (14.7 million views), Untamed (7.2 million views), and The Hunting Wives (4.7 million views), underscoring Netflix’s broad genre mix. While these aren’t record-breakers, their sustained presence in the rankings reflects a steady draw across diverse audiences.

Together, the success of Wednesday and KPop Demon Hunters showcases Netflix’s ability to dominate both serialized and feature-length content. The platform’s strategy of staggering releases for major series while backing breakout films with multi-platform tie-ins seems to be paying off, and August is shaping up to be one of its strongest months of 2025.
