Rick and Morty Veterans Bring Haunted Hotel to Netflix Sept. 19

From creator Matt Roller and executive producer Dan Harmon, Netflix’s new animated horror-comedy checks in this fall with a 10-episode first season. The official trailer teases a spooky setup with sharp, character-driven humor.

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for Haunted Hotel, a new animated series from Rick and Morty veteran Matt Roller with executive producers Dan Harmon, Chris McKenna, and Steve Levy. The show arrives September 19, 2025, and follows a family that inherits a haunted inn called the Undervale. The preview positions the series as a character-first horror-comedy, signaling a blend of laughs and lore that fits neatly alongside other adult animation hits on Netflix.

At the heart of Haunted Hotel is Katherine, a recently divorced single mom trying to keep the Undervale running with help from her kids, Ben and Esther. Their biggest surprise is also their oddest staffer: Nathan, Katherine’s estranged brother, who happens to be dead and now lingers as a ghost. The hotel’s long-term residents are spirits and entities with unfinished business, which gives the series a steady stream of eerie guests and comedic complications.

The creative pedigree leans heavily into sharp genre play. Roller serves as creator, showrunner, and executive producer, while fellow Rick and Morty mainstays Dan Harmon and Steve Levy are joined by Chris McKenna, known for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Titmouse handles animation with supervising director Erica Hayes. Fans of that writer’s-room rhythm should recognize the quick setups, left-turn gags, and layered mythology that helped define their previous work.

The voice cast is stacked with comedy ringers and drama pros. Will Forte plays Nathan, the spectral brother whose unfinished business keeps him bound to the property. Eliza Coupe voices Katherine, whose resolve anchors the family. Skyler Gisondo voices eldest child Ben, with Natalie Palamides as the fearless Esther. Jimmi Simpson rounds out the core ensemble as Abaddon, a demon inconveniently trapped in the body of a boy from the 1700s.

Tonally, the trailer frames Haunted Hotel as “scary but fun,” aiming for a “classic haunting” vibe without leaning into gore. Set pieces play up creaks, candlelight, and ghostly etiquette alongside punchy banter. That balance positions the series to court both horror fans and animation diehards, an “animated horror-comedy” built around quirky house rules, spectral politics, and the push-pull between the living and the dead under one creaky roof.

The series launches with 10 half-hour episodes, a format well suited to monster-of-the-week encounters and slow-burn family arcs. The Netflix trailer went live on August 11, 2025, and has drawn more than 360,000 views and 15,000 likes to date. The upload carries the label “Haunted Hotel | Official Trailer | Netflix,” underscoring the platform’s positioning of the show as a fall highlight and a fresh companion to its adult animation slate.

Beyond the logline, Haunted Hotel looks primed to ride the wave of genre-blending animation. The family’s front-desk dynamic supplies the emotional spine, while the inn’s spectral regulars supply endless story fuel. With the Rick and Morty lineage in its creative DNA, the Netflix trailer suggests a series that can juggle mythology, jokes, and heart without losing pace as the September series premiere approaches.
