Owen Wilson Swings for Redemption in Apple TV+ Comedy ‘Stick’

A former golf star’s meltdown becomes a viral legend in ‘Stick,’ a new Apple TV+ series blending sports drama, sharp comedy, and second chances.

Pryce Cahill had it all, until he didn’t. In Stick, Apple TV+ reimagines the sports comeback story through the fictional tale of Cahill, a once-brilliant golfer whose 2009 implosion at Sawgrass turned him into a punchline. Created by Keller and starring Wedding Crashers’ Owen Wilson, the series premiered June 4, 2025, and has already teed up a Season 2.

The trailer for Stick captures the chaotic unraveling of Pryce’s career. Once a fan-favorite for his showy playing style, he famously lost a 10-shot lead in the final round of a tournament, assaulted his playing partner (Clark Ross, played by Timothy Olyphant), and was banned from the tour. In the show’s universe, the incident became a viral clip and part of sports lore.

Two decades later, Pryce is broke, bitter, and midway through a messy divorce. Haunted by grief over his son’s death and stuck in emotional rough, his fortunes shift when he meets Santi, a teenage golf prodigy played by Peter Dager. With Santi’s raw talent and Pryce’s experience, a mentorship, and possible redemption arc, takes shape.

Stick isn’t just about drives and putts. It digs into regret, ego, and healing, pairing Wilson’s comedic charm with moments of authentic vulnerability. The supporting cast includes Judy Greer as Pryce’s wife, Marc Maron as golf media maverick Mittsy, and Mariana Treviño as Elena, Santi’s strong-willed mother. Cameos by real golf figures like Jim Nantz and Garrett Clark lend an extra touch of realism.

Directed by names like Valerie Faris and David Dobkin, and produced by Wilson alongside Ben Silverman and Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady, the series walks the line between satire and sincerity. It’s a character-driven story that invites both laughs and reflection.

Episode one of Stick dropped alongside the first three installments on June 4. New episodes arrived weekly, with the finale airing July 23. The show has already earned a green light for another round, signaling Apple TV+ sees staying power in Pryce’s journey.

Whether you’re a sports fan or just love a good comeback tale, Stick offers a fictional but relatable story about failure, fame, and forgiveness. As one character notes in the trailer, “The last chapter hasn’t been written on Pryce Cahill”, and viewers are clearly eager to read on.
