New on Netflix: July 2025 Releases
This summer, Netflix leans into legacy IP and global storytelling with a packed July lineup, headlined by two major sequels and the return of prestige TV.
Netflix is gearing up for a high-stakes July, rolling out a mix of major film sequels, returning hit series, and bold international originals. With titles like The Old Guard 2 and Happy Gilmore 2 anchoring the schedule, the streaming giant is clearly investing in both nostalgia and expansion to capture audience attention this summer.
Premiering July 2, The Old Guard 2 reunites Charlize Theron and KiKi Layne in the follow-up to Netflix’s 2020 action-fantasy hit. The original drew tens of millions of viewers within its first month, and the sequel is expected to build on that momentum with new action sequences and deeper lore.
Just a day later, The Sandman Season 2 lands on July 3. Based on Neil Gaiman’s DC Comics series, this fantasy epic continues its exploration of the Dreaming with Tom Sturridge returning as Dream. New cast members, including Esmé Creed-Miles and Adrian Lester, join the expanding universe of one of Netflix’s most critically acclaimed genre series.
Meanwhile, Happy Gilmore 2, debuting July 25, brings back Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, and Julie Bowen for another round of golf-course chaos. The sequel mixes returning characters with fresh faces like Travis Kelce and Bad Bunny, positioning it as a comedy tentpole for the platform.
Global stories are also front and center. Mexican crime series La Chasse aux gringos and French thriller Soleil noir premiere July 9, while Dutch comedy Almost Cops joins the mix on July 11. These releases underscore Netflix’s ongoing strategy to push local originals with international appeal.
On the documentary front, Apocalypse in the Tropics, directed by Petra Costa, arrives July 14. This politically charged Brazilian feature explores the impact of climate change and political instability, adding weight to Netflix’s nonfiction roster.
Other highlights include the debut of Too Much, a new series from Lena Dunham and Luis Felber, whose exact release date is yet to be confirmed but expected mid-July. And kicking off the month on July 1, Netflix will refresh its library with the Mission: Impossible and Karate Kid franchises, plus all eight seasons of Mom and Yellowjackets Season 2.
