Hulu has dropped the official trailer for Stay, a chilling new psychological thriller. The film blends supernatural terror with the unraveling of a marriage, making it a highlight of the streamer’s annual Huluween lineup.
The upcoming Hulu original Stay follows Kiara, played by Megalyn Echikunwoke, a Ph.D. author specializing in African spirituality, and her husband Miles, portrayed by Mo McRae, a former MMA fighter. Written and directed by Jas Summers, the film pits the couple against a sinister spirit that infiltrates their home just as their relationship reaches a breaking point.
The trailer teases a legend from Benin about a spirit that traps people inside a house, an invention rooted in West African Vodún traditions. While the specific legend is fictional, it draws on authentic cultural references like Zangbeto, traditional guardians believed to possess supernatural powers. This cultural grounding sets Stay apart from many mainstream horror stories.
Produced by Jared Hoffman, Lex Scott Davis, Garrett Thompson, and Mo McRae, the project comes from Andscape, a Black-led media platform committed to telling diverse stories of Black identity through sports and culture. Their involvement signals a strong emphasis on representation both in front of and behind the camera.
The release dates are worth clarifying. The official trailer landed on YouTube on September 15, 2025, but the film itself is set to premiere on Hulu and the Disney+ bundle on October 8, 2025. Additionally, Stay will screen at the New Orleans Film Festival on October 25, offering audiences a chance to experience it on the big screen.
In line with Hulu’s seasonal programming, the film serves as a centerpiece of Huluween, the streamer’s annual showcase of horror content.
