Amanda Knox Reclaims Her Story in Hulu’s ‘The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox’

Hulu’s upcoming limited series revisits one of the most infamous wrongful conviction cases of the 21st century, this time, with Amanda Knox herself shaping the narrative.
Hulu is set to premiere The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox on August 20, 2025, bringing a fresh and personal perspective to the 2007 murder case of Meredith Kercher in Italy. Unlike previous adaptations, this eight-episode drama has Amanda Knox as an executive producer, marking her first direct involvement in dramatizing her own story.
The series, created by KJ Steinberg, stars Grace Van Patten as Knox and delves deep into the intense media scrutiny, legal twists, and emotional toll surrounding the case. Knox’s fiancé, Chris Robinson, and Monica Lewinsky join the executive production team, adding further depth to a project centered on reclaiming control of a highly publicized narrative.
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox will explore not just the events in Perugia, but the “16-year odyssey” Knox faced to clear her name. It will also confront the damaging effects of media manipulation, public judgment, and the justice system’s failures, themes still relevant today.
The real-life case began in November 2007 with the murder of 21-year-old British exchange student Meredith Kercher. Knox and then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were convicted, acquitted, and reconvicted before being definitively exonerated by Italy’s highest court in 2015. Rudy Guede was the only person to serve a definitive sentence for the crime.
While cleared of murder, Knox remains a controversial figure. In 2024, she was reconvicted of slander for falsely implicating bar owner Patrick Lumumba during her interrogation, a charge that the series may address. The show makes no claim to be an impartial retelling; rather, it offers Knox’s side of the story in her own voice.
Episodes one and two will drop on August 20, with the remaining six released weekly on Wednesdays until the October 1 finale. U.S. viewers can stream the series on Hulu, and it will also be available via Disney+ with the Hulu bundle.
Van Patten’s casting is likely to draw attention, given the global fascination with Knox’s case. Taking on a role that has been debated in headlines and courtrooms for nearly two decades will demand nuance, authenticity, and sensitivity.
