David Production Breaks New Ground with ‘Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse’

The iconic studio behind JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure launches its first original TV anime, mixing isekai, delinquent drama, and techno-mysticism in one bold new series.
David Production, renowned for anime hits like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Fire Force, ventures into original storytelling with Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse. The series premiered on July 3, 2025, on Fuji TV’s +Ultra block and is now streaming globally via Crunchyroll (outside Asia), marking a major moment for both the studio and the Summer 2025 anime season.
At the heart of the story is Takeru Narihira, a hot-headed high school delinquent devoted to a girl named Tsukimiyak who others believe doesn’t exist. When he’s suddenly transported to a futuristic version of ancient Heian-kyo, he must master the ancient art of onmyōdō and fight to save her across time and space.
The trailer for Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse highlights Takeru’s grit and loyalty, hinting at explosive battles and emotional stakes. Fans of the isekai and yankī (delinquent) genres will find a fresh twist in this blend of science fiction and mysticism. The show’s animation, by David Production, is already earning praise for its vivid, high-energy style.
Created by Fujiko Sakuno, Hideya Takahashi, and Akutō Satō, the project brings together major talents. Takahashi, who also directs, is best known for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind. Scriptwriter Hayashi Mori (Cells at Work! CODE BLACK) and character designer Kazuaki Morita (Classroom of the Elite) add further pedigree to the creative team.
The voice cast includes Taihi Kimura as Takeru, Maaya Uchida as Tsukimiya, and Ryōhei Kimura as Abe no Seimei. Supporting roles feature a lineup of anime veterans such as Kaito Ishikawa and Marina Inoue. The series is also buoyed by strong music: the opening theme, “Cry Out Cry Over!” is performed by Who-ya Extended, while 9Lana handles the ending theme, “Turn Over.”
Parallel to the anime, a manga adaptation penned by Sakuno and illustrated by Kyūjo Matsumoto began serialization on Kodansha’s Morning Two site on February 6, 2025. This cross-media release strategy is likely to fuel deeper fan engagement and expand the Re:Birth Verse universe.
With its mix of punk spirit, time travel, and supernatural warfare, Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse is poised to become a breakout hit. As David Production enters the realm of original storytelling, all eyes are on this genre-bending experiment, and whether it can redefine what an isekai anime can be.
