Apple TV+ Begins Production on Cyberpunk Classic Neuromancer

Apple TV+ has officially begun production on Neuromancer, a long-awaited adaptation of William Gibson’s cyberpunk masterpiece, marking a major milestone in sci-fi television.
After decades of stalled adaptations and fan speculation, Neuromancer is finally in production. Apple TV+ confirmed the news with a sleek 27-second teaser titled Neuromancer, In Production | Apple TV+, released on July 1, 2025, coinciding with the 41st anniversary of the novel’s publication. The teaser nods to the iconic Chatsubo Bar, drenched in neon and shadow, hinting at the gritty cyberpunk world to come.
Created by Graham Roland and J.D. Dillard, with Dillard directing the pilot, the 10-episode series is produced by Skydance Television, Anonymous Content, and DreamCrew Entertainment. The adaptation brings William Gibson’s visionary 1984 novel to life, considered the origin of the cyberpunk genre and the birthplace of terms like “cyberspace” and “the matrix.”
Callum Turner stars as Case, a disgraced super-hacker drawn into a high-stakes mission by ex-military officer Armitage, played by Mark Strong. The cast also features Briana Middleton as razor-girl Molly, Clémence Poésy as Lady 3Jane, Dane DeHaan, Peter Sarsgaard, and André De Shields. With such a line-up, expectations for this adaptation are sky-high.
Gibson’s novel follows Case and Molly as they infiltrate the powerful Tessier-Ashpool family and interface with artificial intelligences like Wintermute and Neuromancer. The story’s themes, digital consciousness, AI governance, and hacker subcultures, remain eerily relevant in today’s tech landscape.
The teaser’s timing, aligned with the book’s July 1, 1984 release, signals Apple TV+’s intent to honor the source material’s legacy. With over 108,000 views and thousands of likes in just 24 hours, fan excitement is already surging.
This is the first successful screen adaptation of Neuromancer despite numerous past attempts. Its influence is undeniable, with echoes found in The Matrix, Ghost in the Shell, and countless sci-fi works. Now, with Apple TV+ backing it, the “unfilmable” novel may finally meet its match.
Apple TV+ continues to expand its sci-fi offerings, and with Neuromancer, it stakes a bold claim on the genre’s future. The series promises to blend noir aesthetics, philosophical depth, and high-concept technology into a visually arresting experience.
