Tempest Trailer Unveils Global K-Drama Thriller

Hulu and Disney+ have released the first look at Tempest, a high-stakes political thriller led by Gianna Jun, Gang Dong-won, and Hollywood’s John Cho. The series promises international intrigue, explosive action, and a looming global crisis.
The newly released trailer for Tempest (북극성) sets the stage for one of the most ambitious K-dramas yet. Produced by Imaginus, Showrunners Studio AA, and Skydance, the series follows a diplomat caught in a dangerous conspiracy that could spark a world war. Streaming begins September 10, with three episodes launching at once and weekly releases on Wednesdays.
Directed by Kim Hee-won (Vincenzo, Queen of Tears) and Heo Myeong-haeng (The Roundup: Punishment), Tempest combines sleek storytelling with blockbuster action choreography. The screenplay comes from Chung Seokyung, acclaimed for Decision to Leave and Little Women.
At the center of the story is Seo Munju, played by veteran actress Gianna Jun, making her long-awaited K-drama return. Munju is a former UN ambassador who becomes entangled in a deadly investigation after the assassination of a presidential candidate. Her search for truth crosses paths with mercenary Baek San-ho, portrayed by Gang Dong-won.
The trailer introduces another major draw: John Cho, in his first K-drama role. He plays Anderson Miller, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, whose involvement hints at the international scope of the crisis. This casting marks a notable step in Hollywood’s growing participation in Korean drama productions.
The stakes in Tempest are unmistakably global. The teaser highlights car chases, tense negotiations, and a shadowy conspiracy that extends to the White House. References to a possible “World War III” emphasize the thriller’s scale and intensity.
Supporting roles feature an impressive lineup of Korean talent, including Lee Mi-sook, Park Hae-joon, Kim Hae-sook, Yoo Jae-myung, and Oh Jung-se. Their characters weave into a narrative that balances espionage, romance, and political suspense.
The video, officially titled Tempest | Official Trailer | Hulu, positions the series as a major streaming event. With its combination of a star-studded cast, renowned creative team, and globally resonant themes, the show is already generating buzz as a must-watch release this fall.
