Murder at the Fountain: Only Murders in the Building Season 5 Unveils Dark New Mystery

The hit Hulu series returns this September with a case that hits close to home for its beloved trio, drawing them into a world of billionaires, mobsters, and dangerous secrets.
Hulu has released the official trailer for Only Murders in the Building Season 5, teasing the most personal investigation yet for Charles, Oliver, and Mabel. Premiering Tuesday, September 9, the new season opens with the shocking death of Lester, the Arconia’s longtime doorman. Though police quickly label it an accident, the trio suspects otherwise and sets out to uncover the truth.
The 10-episode season will debut with its first three installments on launch day, followed by weekly Tuesday releases on Hulu and Hulu with Disney+. This time, the stakes extend beyond the Arconia’s walls, pulling the amateur sleuths into a web of power, wealth, and danger that spans New York City.
Returning fan favorites include Meryl Streep as Loretta Durkin, Nathan Lane as Teddy Dimas, Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Detective Donna Williams, and Richard Kind as Vince Fish. The show continues its tradition of high-profile casting with new additions like Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz, Logan Lerman, Téa Leoni, Keegan-Michael Key, Beanie Feldstein, and Jermaine Fowler.
Co-creator John Hoffman describes the season as exploring a “new mob of New York”, an elite circle of billionaires whose influence rivals that of old-school mobsters. The storyline promises a mix of intrigue and social commentary, drawing inspiration from real-world headlines about the city’s shifting balance of power.
Filmed in iconic locations on the Upper West Side and Staten Island, the production even worked near the famous Corleone family home from The Godfather, adding a subtle nod to classic mob storytelling.
The trailer hints at a dangerous path ahead, with clues pointing toward connections between the victim and Manhattan’s wealthiest, and deadliest, residents. For Charles, Oliver, and Mabel, solving Lester’s murder may not only be about justice, but also survival.
Season 5 looks set to blend the series’ trademark humor with a grittier, more expansive mystery, proving that the Arconia still has plenty of secrets left to spill.
